Burton Abrams Follows Up on Sleep Apnea and Gout
Burt Abrams, who allowed us to republish his insightful article on Apnea as a cause of Gout, has written a follow-up story for our sister website HHDC (Health-Hack.com).
In the article he explains that Apnea kills off cells in our body every night by depriving them of needed oxygen. As these cells begin disintegrating, they release Uric Acid. The Uric Acid forms monosodium urate crystals in the bloodstream. As discussed before, when the crystals accumulate in the joints (particularly of the lower extremities) the result is Gout.
What most sufferers of Gout and Apnea - as well as many medical professionals - are unaware of is that monosodium urate has been demonstrated to cause autoimmune disorders such as amyotropic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease), Hashimoto thyroiditis, psoriasis, myasthenia gravis and adult-onset diabetes. Most of these are among the many diseases that have been reported to have a strong association with Sleep Apnea.
So: If you have Gout, please consider having a sleep test for Apnea, particularly if you snore.
