A Pre-Thanksgiving Pep Talk for Gout Sufferers
Here in the US, Thanksgiving is coming tomorrow. For those of us who suffer from Gout, here are some things to bear in mind:
Although turkey may not have a heavy concentration of purines, it is still a high-protein food. Eat in moderation.
Try to walk around and get a bit of exercise on Thanksgiving day.
Avoid alchohol if at all possible. Otherwise, practice moderation.
Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of non-caffeinated, non-alchoholic beverages. The more you eat, the more liquid you will need to consume.
If you doze off, this is an excellent opportunity to ask others: “Do I snore?” If the answer is “Yes”, a solution to your gout problem may be at hand.
Just because this Thursday is not a normal workday and you are not following your normal daily routine, don’t forget to take your meds!
Give thanks to those who love and support you. If you are having a flare-up, be gracious in accepting offers of help from those around you, but do what you can (reasonably) for yourself.
Gobble, gobble!
